4. Know the currency and use it. The best way to be assured of savings, is to be familiar with and use the local currency called Colonies. In fact, United States currency is frequently counterfeited in Latin American countries, so many merchants won't accept it. Also, be careful about accepting any yourself. Credit cards are readily accepted at most ATM's across the country.
